The far right are clearly unhinged. And it seems that there are quite a few of these unhinged people around. If I had to profile them I’d say they’d be male, poorly educated, likely to work in the trades, or in the mining industry or farming. Could be self employed. ‘Hands on’ jobs for sure. They see themselves as independent thinkers and hard working people. They potentially have a chip on their shoulder about ‘intellectuals’. They would likely have been unfocused and disinterested at school and seen it as a waste of time, and left as early as possible to get a job. Their fathers would likely have been loudly bigoted and homophobic, and would have inculcated these views into them at any early age. They see themselves as typical Aussie blokes, love a beer and to watch the footy. They’ve become excited by the on-line websites that they’ve found, which ‘talk their language’ and fill in (in their view) the intellectual gap that’s always been a sore point in their psyche. They now see themselves as knowledgeable & with a clear understanding of the worlds ills and who is responsible. Now that the have found a font of ‘secret knowledge’ that makes perfect sense to them, they will not abandon it.
