This week Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones cast a shadow on the unfettered future of the buy now, pay later sector – including Afterpay and Zip – by saying the government will push ahead to have operators regulated under normal credit laws.Zip Co-Founder Peter Gray says he thinks the company’s ability to “pivot on external factors” is “superior to banks, credit cards and incumbents, given the longer duration of their receivables”.“And they are probably more susceptible to changes and external factors and rising interest rates due to their product construct,” he told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
