Lower/almost zero interest rates were squeezing bank profits. Banks were raking in the profits when rates were in the 2-4% range. I also doubt mortgage defaults will ever be significant enough to meaningfully impact profits.
Not sure what the market is doing. Seems money is being pulled off the table all over the market.
