I don't remember if I've mentioned this before and I'm not about to search through the thread to check.
For anybody interested in UK & European cinema in the period approx. 1950-80, there is a lot of fact & gossip to be got from around the seven volumes of autobiography by Dirk Bogarde.
Not only are they useful in this sense but they are in fact a very good read, because not only was he a good actor but he turned out to be a very enjoyable writer.
