It was actually s***. The only thing that was actually better back then was cheap housing. Food was awful. Pubs shut at 6pm. Virtually nobody went to university. Most people had poorly paid semi/unskilled jobs. Air travel was incredibly expensive (the price of a new car to fly to London). Women has almost no career opportunities (they couldn't even be a humble bank teller). Getting divorced was a nightmare. Cars were junk. People had terrible teeth.
