My two cents: Here in the US, the lawyers get a 33% cut from the settlement. That leaves the plaintiffs with approx.$1.3 million, which in the US is pocket change in this type of context. The Aussie lawyers saw now an opportunity to follow the lead of the American lawyers and try to get a quick settlement. Easy money. This is the reason why some companies that can afford long litigation go for it since they know that if they settle quickly, the vultures (lawyers) will come running for their share. Also, the Aussies may be smelling the impending approval of treatments and hoping for a quicker settlement.
