At 20% they have to launch a formal takeover. In terms of rebuffing a takeover there are many levers to pull.
- 10% of the register would act as a blocking stake. This prevents a majority shareholder from moving to 100% ownership through compulsory acquisition
- Voting control over 25% or more of a company's shares can unilaterally block the approval of a takeover conducted by a scheme of arrangement
- There are plenty of things BRK management could do to fight a lowball takeover bid. They have the cash to do it.
The percentages above does not need to be one holding. Shareholders can join forces. The T10 know the value of the assets BRK holds and would not let them go cheaply.
