not really manganese is a substitute for Nickel in only low grade stainless steel , which will rust in sea water and also is not food grade, think its 301 stainless but my memory is not good.
personally think the A1 was a bad move as pointed out by posters here. They could have done a reverse take over of a smaller company (ie company NME) with oxide Au ore, then gone full steam ahead in an openpit with heap leaching and taken advantage of current high gold prices.
