This is the hardest question I've ever attempted to answer here.
It was a few serendipitously concurrent events that occurred at a point in time when I'd lost all hope and was able to put aside what little was left of my pride. I'd been imprisoned by it. I had never asked for or accepted help. I was ashamed.
A random act of kindness was the catalyst. A job offer of two months casual work packing boxes. Saved my life.
Worked my arse off ever since and still pack a box or two when I get the opportunity. That was 20 years ago.
