Fear and greed, as they say! I have 10% of my portfolio in coal so this is painful, but at the moment coal companies are making money hand over fist. The coal price is down slightly, obviously as a previous poster said a recession in the US is likely and investors are adjusting their portfolio accordingly. No doubt the financial media will engineer a reason for the fall, but often share prices fall because they are falling i.e. speculators trading the trend. Still the coal price will have to fall a fair bit to justify the SP falls we are seeing today. Perhaps the speculators are correct and the coal price heads below $200 USD per ton. For reference the current price is about $389 per ton and fell 1.5% since last trading.
