I completely agree. Coal is a villain of the times and the industry is a cheap target because of voter sentiment will tolerate it.
I believe in a national and state based resource levy. If we as shareholders are looking to reap profits from the mining than so should the shareholders in our nation.
As for it being the Queensland Government, I see all levels of government a constant example of mismanagement and lack of transparency with spending ie $25 million flag pole the NSW Premier laughs at not knowing the costing justification while noting it was surprising. I am not a fan of governments simply seeing an industry as someone else’s piggy bank to be raided when needed. A levy should have definitive accounts it is attributed to. I hold the same position for cigarettes and alcohol tax.
