    Hi Digger

The definition of 1 hour as "employed" has been around for ages. I think it may have been introduced during the Hawke/Keating era. Its is only there to allow comparisons between economies/countries in the ILO using a common metric.

"Also, it's important to know that the definition of employed as working "one hour or more in the past week" is not the ABS's definition. It's the internationally recognised definition set by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), a United Nations agency, decades ago. There are 187 member countries in the ILO, and they all use the same definition of "employed."It helps countries like Australia to compare their employment data internationally." https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-23/jobs-why-one-hour-enough-work/100155676

The number of people working 1hour a week is 0.01% (14500) of the work force. 1-10 hours a week is also very small in the overall scheme of things about 10% and 1-20 hours still just 18% of the employment stats. A lot of people get hung up on this and dismiss the stats due to the inclusion of this small sub set. Really the definition is irrelevant the trend is the thing. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-17/one-hour-workers-one-hour-employment-jobs-unemployment/11118506

    cheers
