Based on much observing of corporate behaviour over the years, I'm of a "
In 4 cases out of 5, acquisitions involve the transfer of wealth from the shareholders of the acquiring company to those of the company being acquired" mindset.
But - in terms of the industry evolution - the timing of this particular acquisition means it could be the one in five that is not value destructive.
And while it isn't a case of "Directors all singing
Kumbaya around the camp fire", at least there is some engagement happening and the response from the CAF board hasn't been an outright, "Nah. Opportunistic. Get lost!"
As always the devil will be found in the detail, but what mystifies me is how on earth DVR is going to fund this acquisition, unless it takes the form of some kind of merger.
Which I guess is what the discussions will be about.
