The thing with apparently reactionary truisms is that mostly they are not.
No matter what I or anyone wishes for renewables, transitioning responsibly will take longer than expected and for that period, say a decade, the need for oil will remain strong imo.
Construction plant, heavy transport vehicles, long distance freight trains, the entire global fleet of aeroplanes, and passenger vehicles in other than G7 countries are wedded to oil for many years, as are the nitrogen based fertiliser industry, pharmaceutical industry, manufactured fabrics industry and so on.
Also, Mrs D is pushing for a small pop up camper van, which might cruel my EV aspirations for a while.
