Mate, I raised this quite some time ago in the context of "industrialisation" of India especially and Africa and other Asian countries generally. Indians were already looking at coal expansion at that time.
Unless there is something from the left field to provide abundant cheap power, there is really only one alternative - coal. Yes, gas/nuclear/ze renewables will play a part but the huge demand will lead to only one door - coal.
We are seeing that coming to pass. There is no other option - NONE!
