What happens is not exactly a 'blackout period'. All it means is any loss you realized cannot be used on the same asset if you buy it back within 30 days.
You can still trade and play around it's just that you have to be careful when reporting it since the ATO is beginning to clamp down on the absolute worst of the worst criminals...RETAIL TRADERS.
