The universe is 100% effect. Cause and effect is the law of laws. If the universe exists it had a cause.
The exactitudes required for a universe to form and it being then viable to produce and support life are incalculable and highly improbable, maybe impossible to have been accidental, right down to the energy required to produce the centripetal waltz of heavenly bodies that holds the universe in its many internal forms.
Every claim to this fact, be it from science or religion is pure supposition. Even Hitchens said this was a really worthy conversation.
So our known science tells us that a universe was more likely caused than not and cause can not be regressed infinitely, therefore the cause must arise from something uncaused. Now seeing as human sentience and consciousness seems to have arisen from matter and matter does not contain sentience and consciousness, then it must also be possible that the source of all consciousness exists in an uncaused state.
