Tony75, this is from 'AFR' of 3 March 2022:
"...The airline has 90 per cent of its fuel needs hedged until the end of June...
...The airline employs a “declining wedge” strategy, making it is highly hedged in the short term but the level tapers off to zero over the following 24 months..."
So while you're incorrect that the hedges 'ran out' on 30 June 2022, they've defintely reduced from the level of 2H 22.
I had read somewhere that from 1 July 2022 for a while, QAN's fuel hegding is at 50 per cent of its requirements but despite searching QAN's media releases, I couldn't find that statement.
Notably, USA airlines (which unlike QAN at present can be very profitable, a rarity in this subsector) avoid fuel hedging.
