There was a survey published some time ago that said 65% of Australians were dependant upon the government for income. This would include pensioners etc.
Unfortunatley it is not an easy question to answer because the governments have produced so many quasi governemnt agencies that are supposed to be private corperations but are of course government.
It is apparent that government paid "workers" are a very high ratio compared to the actual workforce and allthough I would love to know what it actually is unforunatley you have to rely on government statisitcs. As Mark Twain commented there are: "Lies, damned lies, and statistics"
Government paid workers are the growth industry in Australia and they do vitually no actual work (as would be measured in a normal business that has to produce an income or perish)
To arrive at a figure you have to take the population figure deduct those listed as unemployed, pensioners, children. Then compare whats left as a ratio aginst the actual tax paying workers.
Before you say it, I know that this is a simplistic view but there are a hell of a lot of them in comparison to what they achieve
