joint venture entity ZOLEO has launched its solution in the UK, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway.
The launch into these countries is said to be significant for the company given the total population of these five countries exceeds 94 million.
ZOLEO will be sold directly via the ZOLEO website and Amazon.co.uk, with Beam to receive 50 per cent of the profit from European subscribers.
Distribution across Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway will be managed by Beam’s authorised distributor, CIRDAN.
The ZOLEO device will be priced at €269 (A$399) in Europe and £209 (A$369) in the UK, with monthly subscriptions ranging between €20 to €60 in Europe, and £18 to £58 in the UK.
ZOLEO connects with phones and tablets to provide seamless global messaging that can work both in and out of mobile coverage zones. Users can message over satellite, cellular or wifi.
It also has SOS alerts which are monitored 24/7 and GPS locations that can be shared with others.
“We are pleased to partner with ZOLEO to bring its innovative global messaging solution to consumers in the Nordic region,” CIRDAN Managing Director Arne Pedersen said.
“For smartphone users that venture beyond mobile coverage, ZOLEO is a game-changer. The small, durable ZOLEO device works with the free ZOLEO app on users’ smartphones to provide global messaging, SOS alerting, check-in, location-sharing and on-demand weather forecasts at a very affordable price point.”
Beam was down 5.97 per cent on the market with shares trading at 31.5 cents at 2:00 pm AEST.

The only ASX-listed developer of mobile satellite equipment, Beam sells its off-the-grid communications devices in league with bandwidth providers and owns the SatPhone Shop chain.
In joint venture with Canada’s Zoleo, Beam is rolling out a subscription-based device service and has also announced a new contract with its long standing partner, the Nasdaq-listed Iridium Communications.
In early June Beam said revenue for the year to June 2022 would come in at $23 million, 24 per cent higher.
Shipping delays will result in underlying earnings more than halving to around $1 million, before rebounding “materially above” $2.1 million (the previous year’s earnings) in the current 2022-23 year.
Beam chef Michael Capocchi says he’s “more optimistic about the company’s outlook than I have ever been.”
Beam shares have lost more than half of their value in the past six months, valuing the company at a mere $20 million (including $5m of cash).
Broker Pac Partners ascribes a “conservative valuation” of 32 cents a share compared with the current 23c, with a further 23c of “upside value”. This doesn’t include the Zoleo JV, which the Pac men reckon is worth 44 cents a share alone.
