    If the ASX was a fairdinkum market and not primarily a play ground for fat cats, then the short open position facility would be public knowledge. As it is on the NYSE and others. We're always way behind the rest in these sorts of things. If you make enquiries and get past the front desk you get a patronising sort of response like, "It's in the best interests of an orderly market that things are done this way. People wouldn't understand the concept of shorting...it sounds kinda unpatriotic" . And in fact most brokers act dumb if you ask for a loan of some stock to short. Its only on for the big time players.
    Still I suppose I shouldn't whinge. The old ASX has come a long way since the days of O"Connell St.,
