Australia doesn’t need nuclear power the way other places do. We have lots of space and sun, many places don’t (think UK, Japan, S Korea etc). Doesn’t mean we can’t contribute via being the source of one of the best nuclear tech companies in the world though!
Also re time and budget, it’s amazing what people and nations can do when they decide something is urgent and get behind it (think mRNA vaccines). If SMRs and advanced nuclear can be positioned as a significant part of the solutions for the intertwined urgent issues of CO2 emissions and energy security it’ll be a slam dunk and you bet they’ll be built and operating by the end of the decade.
