Saw your accidental post on AVR and followed you over as I've been researching this topic for work. Yes, Japan has 2 under construction.
Howard did a review in his last term, so I'm surprised Baraby and the libs are trying to push this. Australia doesn't need to do nuclear as it's cheaper for us to do renewables and storage; it makes zero sense financially.
Nuclear does make sense in certain places like around the equator, where they get a lot of rain and have large populations. And there is some fantastic new nuclear tech out there - https://www.seaborg.com/ - reactors that cant' meltdown (in theory). But it only makes sense financially in locations that can't do renewables well, which Australia can do better than pretty much everyone else.
SLX looks very interesting at first glance - will give me something to research this weekend, cheers Bill
