While it is a common and indeed often required early mine planning phase to include "community consultation", I would agree with you that it would be advantageous to have meaningful, open and honest consultation with any interested parties regarding Mt Lindsay development. It will be interesting to watch how potential meetings could transpire with the likes of the BBF, if they continue to designate themselves as wise foresters and environmental manager advisors...taking all considerations into account.
Their track record, while often confrontational, could maybe improve to become genuinely accepting of all relevant points of view for consideration, whereby a reasonable outcome could be agreed upon. This of course happens frequently across Australia, although possible not always for the best outcome. Experience over the decades has given many lessons to learn from, and therefore better laws have been formulated.
I notice that far greater efforts are made these days with laws to take care of local environments and community welfare. Local consultation is highly prioritised. In our situation, it is clear that thorough, reasoned and shared cases would be productive.
I have once had a good conversation with our CEO, Andrew, and may try again to contact and seek answers on this prickly issue. Anyone can try. (Yes, no wonder these problems can get itchy!!)
There are probably many examples to draw from of beneficial works in mining areas, regarding vegetation or animal life disturbances or losses which our planning team can use.

VMS is in a prime time and position to utilise any positive plan to please most parties and aspects. Why on earth not??!
