kincella that is exactly right. It now doesn't matter even if the property were to fall 50% you would be back in the same position. However rents would have increased over this time and if we were to see falls on this scale interest rates would be somewhere near zero. Your example still wouldnt be able to afford to buy becuase he would likely be unemployed or banks would stop lending into a deflating market.
