make sure you click on the button in the top right hand corner of the debt clock
this changes the figures dramatically
otherwise you will get a "year to date" figure
not the total year figure
guess what debt to gdp is
us national debt $12,382,139m
gdp $14,274,851m
debt/gdp=86%
interestingly $659,679m is spent on defense
doing some back of envelop calculations
you could halve that to $300,000m a year and put the money into reducing debt and quess wot?
the us would be debt free in 41 years
also if total revenue from taxes is $4,455,524m
if you were to raise taxes by 10% the government could raise another $450,000 m per year
add the cut to defense to that you get
$750,000 m
use that to pay off the debt
and the US would be debt free in 16 years
