imo only, the threat comes from isolationism..... if we Aussies isolate Muslims and alienate them, ie. remove their rights, of course they will become defensive and we will have good cause to fear them.

I think you're conflating two separate anxieties. Banning the symbol of Nazism is a sensible move as it has been taken up by white supremacist orgs who would cause havoc and are potentially violent in their aggressive manner of forcing their opinion on our democracy.

Islamic fundamentalists are a threat. Lets treat our Muslim brothers and sisters as fairly and equal to all other sectors of the community, without prejudice, as many exercise their Muslim beliefs as a peaceful religion. this way we can reduce the probability of Muslim extremists becoming a threat.

honestly, I'm much more concerned about white supremacists than general Muslims.

and yes, I've been in conversation with both white supremacists and Muslims.
