Interesting to find a research paper published a few months ago by Mark Blaskovich and collaborators. In it they found that CBD acts as a powerful helper drug to boost the effectiveness of an antibiotic of last resort against several species of Gram-negative bacteria including Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. They studied the metabolites present in cells to deduce that, addition of CBD interfered with bacterial DNA and lipid synthesis, and to quote the last sentence, “Such findings will aid in the understanding of the most likely mechanisms behind the killing synergy and ultimately facilitate future repurposing of cannabidiol as an antimicrobial agent in combination with polymyxins.”
