"...Has it been confirmed he took documents he had no right to take? and did so knowingly...."

    Yes to both.

    ________

He did previously return some belatedly after the threat of action to retrieve them.

From the OP article:- "...Mr. Trump delayed returning 15 boxes of material requested by officials with the National Archives for many months, only doing so when there became a threat of action to retrieve them. The case was referred to the Justice Department by the archives early this year...."

    _______

"...As President he could declassify documents at any time. ..."

Only when he was President, not after he took them.

Noting it was still illegal for him to take them even if they were declassified, which he knew, because he was told on multiple occasions.

    _______

"...Anyone who thinks a raid of this scale over a National Archives dispute is not political is kidding themselves...."

Not a dispute, Trump took documents he wasn't legally entitled to take, and he resisted attempts to get the documents returned.

Trump is 100% in the wrong, and had ample opportunity to return the documents.

Trump shouldn't have taken them in the first place, and he should have returned them promptly when first requested.

So not sure why you are trying to find excuses for Trump when there is no excuse.
