I have a little theory

DoJ is well aware of the possibility Trump supporter could turn feral if/when the charge trump with crimes trying to over turn the election so if they charge Trump with crimes not directly related to trying to over throw the election it sort of mutes the Trump supporters out rage of the stolen election.

It also removes the idea that it's political, mis-handleing of official sensitive document is a crime and the Trump supporters would be hard pressed to excuse it. There would be some protests that maybe there was some funny business but that would settle.

Once the Trump supporters get use to the idea that Trump is charged for taking classified documents it will be easier for them to accept Trump getting indicted for his many other crimes
