You obviously don’t work in the ED as it takes you a lot longer to cannulate a patient to receive that morphine than “5 seconds”. And subcut and intramuscular morphine are much slower onset analgesics than penthrane. Tramadol? Come on, it’s oral. Too slow! Had a fractured femur today. Cyclist. 8/10 pain. Administered Penthrane immediately and after 3-4 minutes it was 4/10 while we cannulated and gave morphine. Another dose prior to transfer at hospital and pain was 2/10. We don’t carry entonox due to lack of partability and there’s nothing to compare to Penthrane for ease of use and immediate bang for your buck analgesia. PS. My dad was using Panadol as suppositories. When I told him he should swallow them he simply pointed to the pack and exclaimed “but it says it’s an anal-gesic!”.
