Because it's commercially beneficial for them. If that's not the reason then their shareholders have cause to complain.

Not who, what - the resource, TIVAN, and the perceived viability of the project to make them money.

Nobody - nobody - is indispensable. And if someone become a liability it's time for them to be let go. It's not personal. Good governance, and economics.
