"There is no real market for Optane and other 'fast' persistent storage such as ReRAM because NAND has much lower cost and vastly higher storage capacities."
So you really think ReRAM can't scale up and become cost competitive? My first flash memory stick was 128MB and from memory cost about $12.
Flash had the advantage of effectively no competition from the preceding technology (1.44MB 3.5 inch Floppy disk), and so took the world by storm. It will be a lot tougher for ReRAM to displace flash, but the performance advantages are still quite compelling.
