Of course the US is tracking the EU. Same as our sycom market here, tracks the DOW because what else does it have to guide it. It watches both the FTSE and DOW till the FTSE closes, then mirrors the DOW.
I mean, they don't have much choice since it's the only place where a few of their stocks are trading. If you're a night trader and your own market is closed, what else? You'll also find a lot of trades in our indices traded on sycom are overseas traders watching their own markets.
