The last line in the article says it all.
"If countries didn't want weapons, we wouldn't have to worry about this kind of technology."
Unfortunately they do, (Australia in the 50's was no exception) so we have to continue to worry. The huge attraction for nuclear fission is its ability to use the process to make weapons grade material. Bring on nuclear fusion as a far safer alternative. In the meantime renewables are the cheaper (and available) alternative.
