    Just noticed this post.

I tried to work out what type of ironstone is referred to in the link. It may be varieties of Pottery rather than ironstone as found in the Gascoyne.

Hastings have given data on bulk densities as part of the multitude of parameters required for various resource estimate.

The 2019 resource announcement gave this (among others) bulk density data from 370 samples.

A very wide range with the average probably between 2.5-3.
2.8+- is a number I saw for fresh carbonatite which is probably reflected by samples below 50m in most cases.

Interesting to look at HAS data, and others, in the steep learning curve that accompanies learning about previously unconsidered fields. In this case Carbonatites and REEs.

    How to classify a carbonatite?

This table is one way. The SG of each is likely to be different as will a Ferrocarbonatite with differing ratios of minerals (Fe in particular).
Toss on weathering processes and the scatter diagram above is likely to be the result. No one figure will be accurate for everything but something is need to convert volume to tonnes.

2.5 SG is probably a conservative average.
3.3 perhaps a bit too high for everything. Perhaps good for dense, non porous ironstone a la Yangibana.
