"grid hits peaks in demand the power station lifts it use of coal". .... does it? how does the coal company do this? when the boilers run at either adequate steam production of inadequate or excess to requirements. Demand changes but turbines in coal plants aren't so amenable to fine adjustments. so how do the generator companies adjust that which has little capacity for adjustment?
they either switch off boilers or they don't.... and it takes around an hour to get a tu8rbine spinning again after being shut down - others would know more about this than I do, so I hope that someone will correct me.
but, dear zippety do-da, you don't seem to understand steam driven turbines at all.
