there've been several attempts to move the Lib party demographic. Howard was ok and preferred non-descript religion. Abbott moved to make deep inroads with his religious views connected to neoliberalism. But this looks like a Morrison-inspired push to recruit evangelical religious .....

whether this is a Morrison "job" or not is not important. What is though, is the fact that our democracy is available to all and sundry with no barriers to religious offering themselves as candidates, and people who mix within religious circles have the right to form a political association within their religious group.

I share your concern that our politics could develop into the religiosity shown in American politics, and for a while it looked like that might be a realistic anxiety.

yet religion has had a very rude shock with Morrison's rejection. and our secular cynicism of religion has been bolstered by Morrison's shameful acts.

I don't care about another person's religious views.... entirely up to each person, just as long as there's no proselytisation.
