Through this new standard, the use of lithium in Extremadura is declared of general interest, included in the list of essential raw materials for the European Union in 2020, recalls García. This implies, in a practical way, that when the Autonomous Administration, which is competent in this matter, grants the lithium exploitation concession permit "it will be linked and conditioned to the fulfillment of the obligation that the metallurgical and minerallurgical treatment and benefit of the resources of this mineral are necessarily made" in Extremadura.

This type of benefit is understood, said the Minister for the Ecological Transition, "the set of activities necessary to obtain lithium hydroxide, or a similar useful lithium compound, one of its main applications being, among others, the manufacture of batteries ».

Currently no lithium mining permit has been granted in Extremadura. there are 14 research permits in process. Six have been granted -one of them, Valdeflórez de Cáceres, a second permit because the first one requested by the company was rejected by the Board-.
