Well let me start by stating i wont choose to respond to all your points chapter and verse not because the questions cant be answered but rather because credible answers from reliable sources are readily available online for anyone seeking the information. Also there are many great posts in this forum that an open minded person could use for information.
"As to the overnight period, maybe you've heard of hydro, wind and various forms of energy storage being built right now ?"Are you referring to snowy hydro 2.0? Not only is this project going to cost magnitudes more than the approved business case but its also well behind schedule for delivery. Hasn't the AEMO just this week released projections of a gap in the supply of energy for NSW that will likely lead to blackouts? Some basic research will provide a great deal of credible industry information on this despite not being covered by mainstream media, even Chris Bowen who shares your evangelical views has noted Snowy 2.0 has problems.
Reactor lasts 60 years, does it ? Just build one and not touch it for 60 years ? You wish
What about the 24/7/365 maintenance, operations and security crews ? What about the constant maintenance and replacement schedules for the steam turbines, generators, switchgear, control systems etc ? What about the toxic waste it produces that has to be stored and monitored for thousands of years ?The French operate 56 reactors built with a good number of these built in the 70's still operating. The technology has advanced significantly since this time. I dont think anyone suggested they dont require maintenance just like from time to time the solar panels and wind turbines will require same. Again there are some excellent resources available to see what modern nuclear can look like companies like Rolls Royce and the Bill Gates owned TerraPower are great places to start your education.
Regarding the waste there has been much progress since the 1980's where waste was buried and stored. This
LINK to the US Department of Energy states that 90% of the energy still remain in spent fuel also a nice little fact that all the the spent fuel from from decades of nuclear energy use in the US would fit on a single football field at a depth of 10 feet. In any case the store and forget days are well past as these days with treatment they can re-use the fuel in fact advanced reactor technology is close to a solution that doesn't produce any radioactive fuel waste.
As for the ugly well i will finish this post with a few pictures of what should be pristine country side apart from the ugly of wind turbines. The same can be said of solar occupying the lush pastoral lands that should be brimming with crops to feed the world but covered in solar panels that need to completely swallow prime land in order to operate at a commercial scale.
