Im surprised it isnt close to 100% of aluminium smelters shut down.
if electricity costs are at 30 cents euro per kwh. A 16000kwh electricity cost for 1 tonne of alumnium would cost 4800 euros. Electricity alone.
market price per tonne of aluminium is about 2300 usd per tonne.
the smelters relying on wholesale power would lose at least 2500 usd per tonne produced.
a 10k tonne production a month would incur 25mil usd in losses a month at the minimum. Or 300million usd in losses per annum.
the smelters arent bleeding. They r gushing blood.
