Hey Brother, yeah the seizmics only tell part of the story & on that we all misread a little here and there..
Said it before & will re-iterate again now.. Only two parties who really know and that is Sherritt who been drilling this layered geology for over 20 years now & MAY.. And when we say MAY lets refine that to mean the Geophysicists & Dr Rafael Tenreyro.. Who knows more than any I'll wager..
But first lets look at the COS of 23% shall we and more specifically what that means in relation to a working system which is how the Zapato prospect has been described..
A working system (or prospective target) needs a few things to be classified as such.. You need a form of organic rich source rock, a reservoir of porous sand or limestone, a trap or impermeable seal and a form of migration by which the hydrocarbons are moveable.. That's it, nail those and we got ourselves a prospect..
A failure of anyone takes out the whole so your 70% x 70% x 70% x 70% chance against each is only a 24% COS
Personally if some tells me there's a 70% chance and it actually turns out to be zero then I ain't gonna be too happy with how the original value was assessed so I do feel the overall chance is deliberately conservative when you consider all factors are assessed at once and not in stages, so gut really wants to go with 70% but hey it is what it is.. Anyway, what's 8tey on about you ask?
Well I admit to being as confused as others as to why we are now 100 and however many days into a 55 day program and drilling at glacial pace.
So I looked at both the seizmic depiction above and also the Ophiolite outcrop depiction below where two things stood out.. 1. is the Ophiolite outcrop reference to relatively flat dips and 2. is the "Prospective Veloz fm Carbonates" reference..
Because as we know Ceinpet, the Doc and hidden Cuban documents on oil emplacement and lithologies are key here..
Cos Jonny Cuba knows El Gringo's only got half the story...
And to understand the stratigraphic lithology and depositional nature of the fold belt propery we have to go back to the Doc.. To first get a handle on the fold Belt and the TSU's.. Section B-B seizmic shown along with the fold thrusts
Then we can start to understand the location of the coastal TSU's in relation to Motembo and also Camarioca..
Because that then leads to the promised land... Zapato sits in between Motembo & Camarioca on the sectional shown below and right above the two black oilfields depicted at circa 2.6 to 4 km deep.. Previously undrilled you will notice & also covered by a lot of Ophiolite and volcanics.. No wonder we drilling like miss daisy here.. !
Obviously the migration pathway through fissure etc is what has fed the shallow Motembo field shown.. But what you gotta love is that someone, has drawn exactly where the oil fields are along the section, including Varadero etc.. So if it exists then ??
Errol said MAY adopted a strategic approach of collating data in picking the target..
So did this mob and it aint hard to see why..

Becasue Zapato it seems is a lateral depositional pinch out trap unless I am reading this wrong?
Sorta makes sense now laid out like this don't it?
Regardless of whether the structure is depositional or erosional
The fact remains that we have the right mix of the req facets to have a working prospect below the drill bit..
And the fact that it appears on a sectional view, that Zapato being some 10k and inboard of Motembo & Camarioca and positioned right over the top of an oil reservoir at circa 2600m surely means todays announcement was all in accordance with the plan... ?
So chill bitches, and be sure there's greater than a 24% chance ol 8tey's gonna take a few more off the table tomorrow... But hey, as always, you do you ;-) hehe
Prob a couple of previously undrilled Mobi's down here you could pot if ya wanna it looks? Them Cubans hey, the yanks thought they didn't have the missiles so why would they think they gots the oil?
