Just to confirm. Dealer charges out mechanic at $140 an hour. Pays Mechanic $28 ph but receives a subsidy from the Government of $17 ph. Net cost to business is $11 ph. That is a pretty nice margin. At end of apprenticeship mechanic is let go or offered no incentive to stay unless he is exceptional mechanic maybe 1 in 10. Smart mechanic moves on to other training because he knows his future is dim at best.
Actual case history. Said mechanic now IT Specialist earning decent money. His love of cars slightly tainted.
