85% of what I do is on computer. 10% are meetings which I'd run or attend - I'd say 50/50 Webex only vs in a room with others
So I could quite easily do the majority of my job remotely.
But 5% is being present. It's the little things - the commentary, having a craic/laugh throughout the day, people knowing you are there & showing up, being on site means you are approachable. It's the 15-20 questions I get asked each day on how to do something. It's being in the room & even if it's not my conversation overhearing something which I have expertise in & volunteering input. It's people knowing where to find me.
That 5% would be 40-50% of my value to the business, IMO. For management, it would be a higher figure because of the very nature of their role.
Seemingly a small thing, but showing up matters. Just as not showing up is noted.
