Long time investor (early 2018) and lurker, first time poster
Interesting article and paper linked below comparing the levelised cost of energy (LCOE) for solar PV with VRFB vs lithium batteries which states costs are similar at less than 22c/kWh but lithium still a bit cheaper. Makes sense since the tech has had a head start in commercialisation. Does say that VRFB batter in hot climate which would be great for a lot of locations in Oz e.g. miners like BHP and Rio Tinto looking to transition their energy supply to renewables + storage. All large utility scale battery storage projects flagged in Australia still seem to be planning for lithium ion batteries but hopefully we see some VRFB soon.
