After today’s announcement, you could probably also add SYR.
It's interesting that they still can’t build any sustained momentum without some kind of interference or issue popping up. Whether it is environmental concerns like the lack of infrastructure in Africa to cope with major flooding or severe weather events, fluctuating shipping costs, civil unrest or the current strike actions that are taking place, the list goes on. Add rising geopolitical tensions and it could get very nasty.
Unstable jurisdictions are fraught with investor risks but these concerns are not going to go away in a hurry. This latest strike action is highly embarrassing for the Lithium-ion economy let alone their investors, including their largest shareholder, Australian Super. Who IMO took a 'punt' to overly invest in them some time ago. Could they be rueing that decision now?
As the ESG savvy investment community becomes more aware and focussed on ’socially’ responsible investing, countries that are underpinned by 'unreasonable' labour costs could ultimately lead to a levelling-out of the playing field globally. This may mean that Australian raw material players like RNU, who pay a decent wage and look after people and the communities where they operate (not to mention that we are already in the lowest cost quartile OPEX) will gain an even greater advantage.
As DC recently alluded to in a recent video, one of the reasons why China is now an importer of graphite is because they have worked out that it is cheaper for them to import rather than fix the environmental and social concerns surrounding their lesser tier projects.
On the domestic front, old-energy coal miners led a wipeout in the energy sector today on jitters about a global slowdown grew, however, I'd argue that we part of the new energy platform technology that can change the game for many things. As Simon Moores alluded recently, Post #: 63870004
Exciting times!
