Tangs, sabotaging the pipelines eliminates Russian bargaining power with Europe. In other words Russia now doesn't have the power to turn the gas on or off at least until the end of winter according experts.
As you are no doubt aware there has been an ongoing battle over sanctions against using Russian gas, between the US and Germany for some considerable time, with some European countries siding with Germany and some siding with the US.
These coordinated acts of sabotage have the hallmarks of the US written all over them.
