I would have been extremely surprised if you had spoken to any at all from those social situations situations very interested in barter of any type.
It sounds like the are areas of qld you haven't seen though....
I have travelled a lot but the types of places you describe are not the types of places I have found pms or other serious barter.
Spend some time working outback, fossicking or living off grid and you discover a whole new world.
Have you ever lived anywhere where you have not seen a human for three months?
A city becomes surreal when you get back. To me its a nightmare.
I will put it to you another way. I know people who dont even have bank a/c or credit card.
not sure what the honesty quip is about but I only speak of things from experience.
