For example if you bought $10000 of FBR shares in USD today at exchange rate of 0.65 and 1% currency conversion fee, you would get 176,785 shares.

if the exchange rate is 0.75 when you sell and the SP is 10cents, you would get $17502. (Applied 1% currency conversion fee agai
if the exchange rate went the other way and was 0.55, you would get $17502.

but if you bought in Australia and didn't have the currency conversion fee, you would get $17,857.

You need to realise that you would be buying a number of shares at the point in time, so the exchange rate cancels out. Ergo, there is no advantage.
