By now we all have probably read about the Mitsui/WCL deal.
IMHO WCL deal is a company maker.

The deal throws up some interesting scenarios.

    1. what are Mitsui's intentions?
we now have a new player on the east coast CSG market, and a new player in the east coast LNG market. I believe that are not yet involved in any of the Gladstone syndicates?

    2. the WCL announcement talks about the new j/v and LNG exports all thru the announcement.

    3. but where? when? how?

    4. Mitsui group had the opportunity to get out of Qld CSG altogether. But not only did it NOT, it got in even bigger. It sold/transferred its CSG interests from its coal arm to its O&G arm. AND it committed extra funds to CSG (it needs to drill more wells in Dawson) plus it if it buys into Galilee Basin, it will commit to extra drilling, under farm-in.

    5. so, in my view we have a new Qld CSG player - a big one.

    6. Mitsui will undoubtedly need more ga than the WCL J/V. It will get a foot on big reserves (hopefully) from the GB permits.

    7. BUT, would not Mitsui be eyeing BOW reserves????

    8. What about ESG reserves??? If Mitsui is serious about LNG exports, what about Mitsui utilising doing a deal with ESG and exporting out of Newcastle. Gladstone seems pretty busy!

    9. ALSO - what about MPO? I previously posted that a WCL/ MPO tie-up of their Qld CSG assets made sense.
Well now, imho, it makes even more sense. Here we have Mitsui owning 49% of Dawson Field and its infrastructure, about 17.5% (??) of MPO ATPs, joint marketing of CSG for LNG purposes, providing technical expertise to WCL, and providing potential funding for development.
With Mitsui as the common denominator, I could see a combination of these closely related permits providing economic sense in dev't, use of infrastructure, use of rigs, scaling/prioritising spend on dev't/drilling, marketing of larger qty of gas to same customers, critical mass of resource etc, etc.

    any thoughts?

    regards
